Silver Lining: Sports Minister Hails Omolayo, Ugwunwa, and Ogunkunle for Paralympic Achievements

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian athletes Bose Omolayo, Flora Ugwunwa, and Isau Ogunkunle for their exceptional performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Their remarkable achievements have brought immense pride to the nation and highlighted Nigeria’s strength in Paralympic sports.

Bose Omolayo showcased her incredible strength and determination in the Women’s 79kg Para Powerlifting category. Lifting a remarkable 145kg, Omolayo secured the silver medal, further cementing her status as a top competitor in her field. In a competitive Women’s Javelin F54 category, Flora Ugwunwa threw an impressive 19.26 meters to earn a silver medal. Her outstanding achievement in javelin throws not only highlights her skill but also her ability to excel under pressure, bringing honor to Nigeria.

Isau Ogunkunle made history by winning a bronze medal in the Men’s Singles Class 4 Para Table Tennis event. His success marks a significant milestone as he became the first Nigerian athlete to secure an individual medal in Para Table Tennis since the Sydney 2000 Games. Ogunkunle’s achievement underscores his dedication and perseverance in the sport.

Senator Enoh praised the athletes for their dedication and resilience, stating, “We are immensely proud of our Team Nigeria Paralympic athletes. Bose Omolayo, Flora Ugwunwa, and Isau Ogunkunle have brought us immense pride and joy with their incredible performances on the global stage. Their dedication, resilience, and passion embody the true spirit of Nigeria, and they continue to inspire millions with their remarkable achievements.”

The Honourable Minister reaffirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting Paralympic sports and ensuring that Nigerian athletes receive the necessary backing to excel internationally. “Our champions have shown once again that disability is not a limitation. As a nation, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all athletes, regardless of ability, can thrive and make us proud on the global stage,” Enoh added.
