The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the 37th Head Coach of Nigeria’s national senior football team, the Super Eagles. The announcement was made in the early hours of Tuesday via the NFF’s X handle (formerly known as Twitter).
In the statement, the NFF revealed that an agreement had been reached with the German tactician, marking the beginning of a new era for Nigerian football. “The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles,” the NFF’s post read.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, also confirmed the appointment, stating: “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect.”
Bruno Labbadia’s first assignment as Super Eagles coach will be to lead the team through their upcoming matches in the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Super Eagles are scheduled to play a crucial home game against Benin Republic on September 7 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Following this fixture, the team will travel to Rwanda for their next match, set to take place three days later.
The Super Eagles camp is expected to open on the 1st of September in Uyo, where Labbadia will begin preparations with the team. With the AFCON qualifiers just around the corner, the new coach will have limited time to instill his tactics and philosophies into the squad.
