Vandeikya, Benue State – In a noteworthy political development, Hon. Anngu Orngu, a prominent member of the Atiku family and a significant figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This shift occurred during an expanded executive committee (EXCO) meeting of the APC in Vandeikya Local Government Area, Benue State.

Hon. Orngu, who was the North Central Zonal Coordinator for the Atiku Support Organization (ASO) during the recent presidential election, was warmly welcomed into the APC by enthusiastic party members. His defection is particularly significant given his influential role within the PDP and his close ties to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

During the welcoming ceremony, Hon. Orngu articulated his reasons for leaving the PDP, emphasizing a desire for new political direction and alignment with the APC’s vision for Benue State and Nigeria. “I believe in the progressive ideals of the APC and its commitment to good governance, development, and unity. It is time for us to join hands and work towards a better future for our people,” he declared.

APC leaders in Benue State, represented by key officials, expressed their joy at Hon. Orngu’s decision to join their ranks. They highlighted his dedication and service record, noting that his experience and influence would be invaluable in strengthening the party’s presence and performance in the region.

“We are delighted to welcome Hon. Anngu Orngu to the APC family. His defection is a testament to the growing appeal of our party and its policies. We look forward to working with him to achieve our shared goals for the people of Benue State and Nigeria,” said an APC official at the event.

Hon. Orngu’s defection is expected to create significant ripples within the political landscape of North Central Nigeria, particularly in Benue State, where the PDP has traditionally held considerable sway. Political analysts suggest that his move could prompt other key figures and supporters to reconsider their affiliations ahead of upcoming elections.

The expanded EXCO meeting, which saw Hon. Orngu received into the APC, was attended by a large number of party members and supporters. The event also served as a platform to strategize and plan for the next electoral cycle, focusing on grassroots mobilization and strengthening the party’s structure at all levels.

As the political dynamics in Benue State continue to evolve, Hon. Orngu’s defection to the APC highlights the fluid nature of party politics in Nigeria, where alignments and affiliations often shift based on emerging interests and strategic calculations. This development is poised to influence the political narrative in the region significantly, impacting future electoral outcomes and party strategies.
