Wike Leads Delegates to Rivers PDP Controversial Election

Written by Oryiman David Mson

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, led a delegation of loyalists to participate in the controversial Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Congress on Saturday. The exercise, which took place at the PDP state secretariat, was conducted under tight security amidst conflicting orders regarding its legitimacy.

However, notably absent from the event were Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, members of the State Executive Council, and the 23 local government caretaker committee members, all of whom are loyal to the governor. They collectively boycotted the congress, highlighting a growing rift within the party.

Wike, who was welcomed with cheers by a large crowd of PDP delegates upon his arrival, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their peaceful conduct. He urged them to continue working together in unity.

As of the time of filing this report, the Martin Amaewhule-led members of the State Assembly, who are aligned with Wike, had been accredited and were already seated at the venue, ready to participate in the congress.
