Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has praised President Bola Tinubu as a seasoned leader capable of steering Nigeria through its present difficulties. During a visit from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) management on Wednesday in Abuja, Akume likened Tinubu to an experienced pilot guiding a plane through turbulent weather, emphasizing his confidence in Tinubu’s ability to manage and resolve the nation’s issues effectively.
Akume described the current state of Nigeria as akin to a plane taking off in adverse conditions. Despite the challenges, he assured that with Tinubu’s adept leadership, the country would reach a safe and stable landing. “President Tinubu’s administration faces a turbulent environment, but with his expertise and determination, he is well-equipped to navigate these challenges and ensure a positive outcome for the nation,” Akume stated.
The SGF highlighted the crucial role of the media in disseminating information about government policies and initiatives. He commended NAN for organizing an international lecture scheduled for October 3, which will address the theme *’Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges—Genesis, Impacts, and Options’*. This event aims to explore the extensive issues of insecurity affecting Nigeria and the broader Sahel region, including terrorism, banditry, and militancy.
Akume noted that the lecture is a significant initiative, recognizing that the media plays a vital role in informing and educating the public. He emphasized that the current administration has been actively working to enhance Nigeria’s security architecture, resulting in gradual improvements in the nation’s security situation.
Malam Ali M. Ali, Managing Director of NAN, expressed appreciation for Akume’s contributions and achievements since the inception of the current administration. Ali stressed the importance of the upcoming lecture in addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria and the Sahel. He highlighted that the discussion will not only focus on Nigeria but also consider the broader implications of regional insecurity.
Ali pointed out that the lecture aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the security issues from 2008 to 2024, offering insights into the ongoing struggles and potential solutions. He commended the Tinubu administration for its efforts to equip the Nigerian Armed Forces and enhance national security.
The forthcoming lecture is anticipated to foster important discussions on security strategies and contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions pertinent to Nigeria and the Sahel region.
