In a recent outburst, Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and prominent activist, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of prioritizing personal luxuries over the well-being of Nigerians. Sowore claims that within just one year in office, President Tinubu has acquired a presidential jet, a bulletproof vehicle, and other expensive assets, while ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer.
Sowore expressed his concerns in a series of posts on his X (formerly Twitter) page, where he criticized Tinubu for allegedly focusing on fulfilling his own desires rather than addressing the pressing issues faced by the nation. According to Sowore, these actions highlight the disconnection between the ruling class and the hardships experienced by the average Nigerian citizen.
He stated,
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said one year isn’t enough for Nigerians to enjoy a better country, but look at what he bought for himself in just one year: yacht, jet, bulletproof Escalade, mansion for VP. #RevolutionNow.”
Sowore further claimed that Tinubu recently launched a $150 million presidential jumbo jet during his trip to Paris, insinuating that the acquisition is just another example of the Nigerian leadership’s focus on personal gratification over public service. He added, “The only thing that makes these thieving rulers in Nigeria happy is when they fulfill their personal desires; they don’t care about the people.”
These remarks have sparked significant debate and controversy, with many Nigerians voicing their opinions on the state of governance in the country. Sowore’s comments are a stark reminder of the growing discontent among citizens who feel that their leaders are out of touch with their daily struggles.
