In a swift operation, the Rivers State Police Command apprehended a 27-year-old security guard, Meshack Monday, for attempting to abscond with a customer’s car from the company where he was employed.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Thursday, May 2, at approximately 12:45 a.m. Operatives from the Olu Obasanjo Division noticed Monday driving a Toyota Corolla in a suspicious manner. His erratic driving near the G.R.A junction raised further suspicions, prompting the officers to chase and eventually apprehend him.
Upon interrogation, Monday, a native of Ogoni and a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to his crime. He revealed that despite working at the company for two years, he had concealed his driving skills. He succumbed to the temptation to steal a customer’s car, which was parked for maintenance, with the intention of selling it to improve his living conditions.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commented on the arrest, emphasizing the importance of installing security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents, especially outside of working hours. He also assured the public that investigations were ongoing to apprehend any accomplices involved in the car theft ring.
This incident highlights the need for increased security measures and vigilance in workplaces to deter potential thefts and ensure the safety of customers’ property.
