The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the unfortunate death of a 58-year-old man who was undergoing a 19-day dry fasting exercise for spiritual purposes. The incident occurred in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on Monday morning.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, the deceased’s younger brother reported the incident to the Alagbado Police Division later that evening, around 7 p.m. The younger brother, whose name was not disclosed, informed the authorities that his brother had passed away during the fasting exercise.
Hundeyin stated that no foul play is suspected in the man’s death, and the family has requested to convey the body for burial.
This incident highlights the risks associated with extreme fasting practices, particularly when not done under medical supervision.
