PDP Criticizes Kwankwaso, Labels Him ‘Inconsequential’ Over 2027 Presidential Ambition

Written by Oryiman David Mson

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken aim at former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, labeling him “inconsequential” in today’s national politics. The criticism came after Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), claimed that the PDP had become a “dead party” after his departure.

Kwankwaso made these comments while inaugurating a new NNPP office in Katsina State on Saturday. He asserted that he would win the 2027 presidential election on the NNPP platform, having been its presidential candidate in 2023. Kwankwaso had served as Kano governor twice under the PDP banner before defecting to the NNPP.

Responding to these claims, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba described Kwankwaso as a failed politician leading a struggling party. He highlighted that Kwankwaso’s NNPP controls only one state, while the PDP boasts 13 governors, numerous senators, and other elected officials.

Ologunagba went on to accuse Kwankwaso of being selfish and disconnected from the pressing issues facing Nigerians. He criticized Kwankwaso for focusing on his 2027 presidential ambitions while millions of Nigerians face economic hardship, including inflation, a depreciating naira, and skyrocketing petrol prices.

“In any event, whatever political relevance Senator Kwankwaso believes he has achieved, he did so only when he was in the PDP,” Ologunagba concluded.
