The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has issued a strong warning to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, accusing him of actions that have been destabilizing the party and disrespecting key leaders, including President Bola Tinubu. The Forum expressed concern over the governor’s conduct, which they say undermines the party’s unity and respect for leadership.
Speaking in Jos, the Chairman of the Forum, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, criticized Governor Alia’s refusal to participate in peace initiatives organized by President Tinubu to address the ongoing crisis within the Benue APC. Zazzaga labeled this refusal as a significant display of disrespect towards the President and other party leaders. He emphasized that this lack of cooperation contradicts the values and principles that the APC stands for.
Zazzaga further pointed out that Governor Alia’s conflict with his political benefactor, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, demonstrates ingratitude and a failure to recognize the support that helped him secure his position. The Chairman warned that the North Central APC would not remain idle while the governor continues actions that could destabilize the party in Benue State, a key region in the North Central zone. He stated that if Governor Alia does not change his approach, the party is prepared to take necessary steps to address the situation.
Governor Alia was reminded that his electoral victory in 2023 was not achieved in isolation but through the collective effort and support of the party. Zazzaga urged the governor to show respect to APC leaders, including President Tinubu and the SGF, in order to maintain the support that has sustained him so far. He hinted that any further disregard for party unity and leadership could result in a loss of support and even potential replacement by the party.
The Forum also suggested that Governor Alia’s behavior may be influenced by external factors or opposition forces. Zazzaga advised that if the governor is aligning with such forces, he should consider leaving the APC rather than causing internal conflict. He emphasized that the party is focused on unity and supporting the President’s policies, which are aimed at the nation’s long-term benefit, even if they are challenging in the short term.
Zazzaga highlighted that among all APC governors in the North Central region, only Governor Alia is exhibiting conduct that undermines the party’s interests. The North Central APC Forum’s message is clear: Governor Alia must reconsider his actions and align with the party’s principles to avoid further repercussions.
By taking this stance, the North Central APC Forum aims to protect the integrity of the party and ensure that all members, especially those in leadership positions, adhere to the values of respect, unity, and cooperation. The Forum’s warning serves as a reminder that the APC is dedicated to maintaining discipline and harmony within its ranks, which is essential for the party’s success and the effective governance of its constituencies.
