Laura Adebisi Claims Nigeria Shouldn’t Have Existed Due to Colonial Legacy

Written by Oryiman David Mson

British-Nigerian actress and film director, Laura Lake Adebisi, has sparked controversy with her assertion that Nigeria should never have existed as a country. In a viral video, Adebisi criticized the ideological divide between the northern and southern regions of Nigeria, suggesting that this split was significant enough to question the legitimacy of the nation’s formation.

Adebisi accused the British government of perpetuating Nigeria’s division to suppress the Biafran secession attempt during the Nigerian Civil War. She claimed that Britain’s intervention was aimed at preventing Biafra’s independence to maintain control over Nigeria’s resources.

“The footprints of colonialism are over Nigeria. Nigeria should have never been a country! The difference in ideology from the northern side to the southern side is insane,” Adebisi stated. She further alleged that the British preferred to keep Nigeria fragmented to continue exploiting its resources.

Laura Lake Adebisi is known for her roles in productions such as *While We Wait* (2023), *True Haunting*, and *EastEnders* (1985). She has also been involved in various stage productions and commercials, establishing herself as a prominent figure in the UK’s entertainment industry.
