The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a substantial supplementary budget of N99 billion to facilitate the implementation of the new minimum wage and enhance other key services within the state. This financial adjustment will ensure the government meets its obligations to public sector workers while funding critical areas of recurrent, personnel, and overhead expenses.

Speaker of the House, Alhaji Jibril Falgor, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their commitment to the timely passage of the bill, emphasizing its importance for sustaining essential public services. He noted that the budgetary increase would empower the state to meet its obligations under the new wage structure, ensuring the welfare of public servants is prioritized.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf had submitted the N99 billion supplementary budget to the state assembly on August 20. The prompt approval of the budget demonstrates the Assembly’s dedication to addressing the financial requirements for improving worker compensation and overall service delivery.

The majority leader of the House highlighted that the passage of this supplementary budget elevates Kano State’s total budget for 2024 to N536 billion, marking a significant investment in the state’s development and a proactive response to pressing financial demands. This additional budget is set to enhance not only the welfare of workers but also the efficiency of public sector operations across the state.
