The Kano State Executive Council has approved the release of N18.8 billion for the execution of various development projects across the state. This decision was made during the council’s 18th weekly meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Key Approvals and Allocations:
Electricity Bills for Water Treatment Plants: N244.9 million was allocated to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to cover electricity bills for June 2024 at four major water treatment plants: Challawa, Tamburawa, Kusalla, and Watari, as well as the State Water Board Headquarters.
Fuel Supply for Water Resources: N141.6 million was approved for the supply of 59,000 litres of diesel for the Ministry of Water Resources. Additionally, N297 million was allocated for the supply of 120,000 litres of diesel and 14,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Solar-Powered Streetlights: A significant project includes the supply and installation of anti-theft integrated solar-powered streetlights in Kano metropolis (Phase II) with an allocation of N6 billion.
Land Acquisition for Housing Scheme: The council approved N150 million for acquiring and utilizing land at Danfami, Challawa, previously part of the Dala Inland Dry Port, for a public housing scheme.
NG-CARES Program: N6.15 billion was set aside for the third disbursement of the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program in Kano State.
Vehicle Procurement: N117.5 million was approved for the procurement of two Toyota Hilux vehicles and one Toyota Hiace bus.
Road Construction: N1.72 billion was allocated for completing a 5-kilometer dualized road in Wudil Local Government Area.
Boarding Schools Food Supply: N746.2 million was approved for payment to foodstuff contractors servicing 39 boarding schools over an eight-week period.
Girl-Child Initiative Buses: N8.1 million was allocated for the refurbishment of 12 buses under the Girl-Child initiative.
Trade Clusters and Market Stalls: N88.6 million was approved for the construction of trade clusters at Shahuci, while N108.9 million was allocated for proposed market stalls and sheds at Badawa layout in Nassarawa LGA.
Kofar Mata Eid-Ground Reconstruction: N2.5 billion was set aside for the reconstruction and redesign of Kofar Mata Eid-Ground (Filin Idi) and Islamic Arena.
New Executive Council Chamber: N492.1 million was approved for constructing a new Executive Council Chamber at the Kano Government House.
Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, emphasized that these projects would significantly impact the lives of Kano residents, reflecting the government’s commitment to state development and public welfare.
