The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully arrested three individuals involved in an ATM card swap fraud scheme. The suspects, identified as Umar Ya’u, Abdullahi Bukar, and Hussaini Sulaiman, were apprehended on August 27th following a carefully coordinated operation by the police, which was initiated based on credible intelligence.
According to the spokesperson for the Kaduna Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, the arrest took place around 11:00 PM, and during the operation, officers recovered 54 ATM cards along with a Point of Sale (POS) machine from the suspects. These individuals were known for frequenting ATM machines, where they would offer unsolicited assistance to people who appeared unfamiliar with operating the machines. During the interaction, they would deceitfully swap the victims’ ATM cards, enabling them to conduct unauthorized withdrawals.
The suspects admitted to defrauding multiple victims using this method across several locations, including Kano, Kaduna, and Zaria.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Dabigi, reassured the public of the command’s ongoing commitment to community safety. He also encouraged people to be vigilant when using ATMs and to immediately report any suspicious behavior to the police for swift action.
