The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 21 candidates submitted fake Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) results for the 2023 admissions process. This discovery was made during the screening of candidates’ credentials by various institutions.
According to a policy document obtained in Abuja, 12 out of the 21 candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, showcasing a concerning trend of audacity in submitting forged documents. JAMB highlighted that these recommendations occurred because the certificate screening process took place after registration.
JAMB emphasized that all certificates must bear the signature of the head of the institution, such as the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector, to prevent such fraudulent activities.
In 2021, JAMB introduced the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform to authenticate IJMB and JUPEB results. This move followed an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Ministry of Education into the irregularities and falsification of results within the JUPEB Board and IJMB examinations.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to taking appropriate actions to curb these unacceptable practices, ensuring that the progress made in Nigeria’s education sector, particularly in the examination sub-sector, is not undermined by unscrupulous individuals.
