In a disturbing incident in Lagos State, a 20-year-old lady was subjected to a horrifying ordeal when she was gang-raped by four young men. What makes this crime even more appalling is that the perpetrators recorded their despicable act and shamelessly shared it on Facebook, causing the victim further trauma and distress.
The suspects, identified as Ibe Obinna, Sheu Robiu, Olorunlayo Emmanuel, and Adebanjo Ayomide, all in their late teens or early twenties, reportedly lured the victim to an apartment in the Bariga area of Lagos. Once there, they forcibly stripped her naked and took turns raping her while one of them filmed the assault on his Tecno phone.
After their repugnant act, they callously allowed the traumatized victim to leave. However, the situation escalated when the video of the assault surfaced on Facebook, causing widespread shock and outrage. Upon discovering the video, the victim bravely informed her parents about the ordeal.
Subsequently, the matter was reported to the Bariga Division of the Nigeria Police Force, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators. The suspects were subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrate Court for their heinous crime.

During their arraignment, the prosecutor highlighted the gravity of the offense and requested that the matter be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. As a result, the Presiding Magistrate ordered the suspects to be remanded in custody at a correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The court proceedings were adjourned to await the DPP’s report, which will determine the next course of action, including the potential transfer of the case to the High Court for trial.
This appalling incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for robust measures to combat sexual violence and protect the rights and dignity of all individuals, especially vulnerable members of society. It is imperative that swift and decisive action be taken to ensure that the perpetrators face the full force of the law and that justice is served for the victim.
