“Childless Jibe”: Edo First Lady Betsy Obaseki Responds to Oshiomhole’s Comments

Written by Oryiman David Mson

Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, wife of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has responded to controversial remarks made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole regarding her childless state. Speaking during a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the diaspora on Saturday, Obaseki offered words of encouragement to women who have faced similar challenges, urging them to see themselves as vessels of fruitfulness and to trust in Divine Providence.

Accompanied by Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, wife of the PDP governorship candidate, Obaseki addressed over 200 women from across the globe, reassuring them that their purpose transcends biological motherhood.

“My message to you, and to myself, is that we are not barren; we are fruitful. We are potential and proud mothers of children who will come in God’s time,” she said, referencing her personal experiences with miscarriages and stillbirths. She encouraged women to focus on the blessings in their lives, emphasizing that “being fruitful is not limited to childbearing; it is about impacting lives and creating positive change in society.”

In her remarks, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo expressed gratitude to the women for their participation and promised to continue Betsy Obaseki’s initiatives for women and girls if her husband is elected to office.

The meeting served as a platform for Betsy Obaseki to reclaim the narrative and provide comfort to women who share her experiences, encouraging them not to let societal pressures or personal losses define them.
