Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has issued a firm directive to security agencies in the state, urging them to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe release of the 20 medical students who were recently abducted.
According to a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor strongly condemned the abduction of the students, who were from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos. The students were ambushed by gunmen along the Otukpo-Enugu highway on Thursday evening as they were en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students Annual Convention in Enugu State.
Governor Alia expressed his deep concern over the incident, warning the criminal elements responsible to relocate from the state. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to eradicating all forms of criminality in Benue State and will not relent in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
The governor’s directive underscores the seriousness with which his administration is addressing the issue, calling for immediate action to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
