The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the local government elections held in Kebbi State, North-West Nigeria. The results were officially declared by the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Aliyu Mera, at the commission’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi over the weekend.
Seventeen political parties participated in the election; however, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition, withdrew from the contest. Following the announcement, the State Independent Electoral Commission issued certificates of return to all the winning candidates, formally confirming their victories.
This election comes amidst a wave of local government elections across about 20 states, following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling granting financial autonomy to the third tier of government in July. Kebbi State remains under the leadership of the APC administration, headed by Governor Nasir Idris.
