Action Peoples Party (APP) Condemns Second Attack on Rivers Secretariat

Written by Oryiman David Mson

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has strongly condemned a recent attack on its Rivers State secretariat by gunmen, which occurred just three weeks after a previous explosive attack on the same premises. The party has vowed to remain undeterred and continue its political activities despite these violent assaults.

On Tuesday night, gunmen attacked the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, critically injuring a security guard. The Rivers State Chairman of the APP, Sunny Wokekoro, expressed his concerns while addressing journalists about the incident, stating that this was the second attack on the secretariat in less than a month.

Wokekoro said, “About a month ago, soon after our state party office was inaugurated by our national chairman and his team, the secretariat was attacked. And now, almost at the same time of night, we’ve been attacked again.”

He explained that the attack occurred between 11:30 PM on Tuesday and 12:00 AM on Wednesday, during which one of the gate guards was shot and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Despite attempts to contact the police officers assigned to protect the secretariat, the party was unable to reach the inspector in charge for assistance.

Wokekoro believes the continuous attacks on the APP are fueled by fear from opposing political forces, who feel threatened by the party’s rising influence and growing support among residents in Rivers State.

“Our party has become a major force in Rivers State,” Wokekoro remarked. “This fact is likely causing envy from those who believe they own the state. But we remain a formidable party, and our activities continue daily.”

The APP had previously been targeted on August 12, when gunmen detonated explosives suspected to be dynamites, causing significant damage to a portion of the secretariat’s facilities.

The APP continues to call for enhanced security and a thorough investigation into the recurring attacks, vowing not to be intimidated by those who seek to undermine their political efforts in the state.
