Nigerian singer and songwriter Korede Bello has opened up about his decision to leave Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. In a recent interview with Hip TV, hosted by reality star Kim Oprah, the “Godwin” hitmaker revealed that his departure from the label in 2021 stemmed from feeling like a product whose primary purpose was to generate profit for the label.
Bello, who joined Mavin Records in 2014, explained that he wanted to take a step back from the constant pressure of creating hits and instead focus on personal growth and self-discovery.
He said, “I was at a point in my life where I needed to metamorphose, to explore my inner worth, to do introspection, understand myself, understand meaning more, and reconnect with my ‘why’.”
The artist added that the fast-paced nature of the music industry can make artists lose sight of what truly matters. “You lose sight of what matters when you chase after the next song, after the next hit… a lot of artists are addicted to that circle,” he remarked.
Bello’s reflections highlight the struggles many artists face as they navigate the pressures of success while trying to maintain their individuality.
