Today, we celebrate the iconic Solomon Iornem JP, a renowned folksinger from Benue State, who has dedicated his music to promoting the rich culture of Benue. Unlike many, Solomon stands out as the only folksinger who has not ventured into political music, choosing instead to focus on themes that resonate deeply with his audience.
I still remember the first time I heard one of his songs, particularly the part where he sang, “Orwam kule yange man u se ye.” It moved me to tears, as it felt more like a sermon than mere music. That song made me reflect on life and approach it with greater humility. Since then, every song of his that I’ve listened to has been rich in substance. His music is both inspirational and prophetic, carrying messages that awaken the conscience of a generation where moral values are rapidly eroding, and immorality is sadly taking center stage.
Solomon Iornem JP is widely recognized for his distinctive style of Tiv traditional music. He hails from Katsina-Ala, Benue State, and to my surprise, he is also an accomplished NOLLYWOOD actor, having worked alongside notable actors like Akume Akume, Segun Arinze, Charles Okocha, and Nancy Isime.
In addition to his music and acting, Solomon is the leader of the De Bantu African Music Organisation and serves as the President General of Benue State Entertainers worldwide. He is also the CEO of I Marem Tiv Doom Media Production.
To me, and surely to many others, Solomon Iornem JP is the best folklore musician, which is why he is rightfully referred to as the king of folklore music in Benue State.
Happy birthday to you, Chief Solomon Iornem JP! We love, value, and celebrate you greatly, Sir.
May you continue to age gracefully, Living Legend.
