Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a heartfelt donation of N105 million to a Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State. The generous gesture was made during a Sunday service, where Rema expressed his gratitude for the church’s unwavering support and guidance during a challenging period in his life.
In a viral video of the event, Rema humbly stated, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”
Rema’s donation was allocated to various causes within the church:
N40 million was pledged for the church’s infrastructure.
N20 million was dedicated to the Rhapsody of Realities, a widely distributed Christian devotional.
N25 million was earmarked for the infrastructure of the teens church, reflecting his connection to the church’s youth programs.
N20 million was set aside to support widows within the church community.
The singer also shared a deeply personal story about how the church supported his family after his father’s passing. He recalled, “When I was eight years old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone, and I remember at the time, Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, and that was what she managed to take care of us.”
Rema’s visit to Benin was part of his homecoming celebration, and he was joined by music producer Don Jazzy and the Mavin crew, who came to show their support. During the visit, Rema also had the honor of entertaining the Oba of Benin at his palace, where he was presented with a royal plaque ahead of his much-anticipated homecoming concert.
