A Nigerian lawyer has advised veteran highlife singer Gentleman Mike Ejeagha to reject the N2 million gift from skit maker Brain Jotter and instead pursue legal action for copyright infringement. This follows Brain Jotter’s use of Ejeagha’s 2010 song in a viral skit, which has reportedly generated substantial revenue.
Taking to the X platform, the legal practitioner, known as Nupe Lawyer, emphasized the implications of copyright infringement and suggested that Ejeagha could potentially earn more by suing Brain Jotter than by accepting the offered compensation.
“I hope the man has a good lawyer😀 you can’t use someone’s song for content raking millions and offer to give the man ‘2 million’ as if you are helping the man🤷♂️,” Nupe Lawyer wrote.
The post has sparked mixed reactions from social media users, with some arguing that the song had been dormant and did not generate significant revenue over the past 14 years.
