The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant consignments of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids at three courier companies in Lagos. According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, the drugs were concealed in sanitary pads and hair treatment cream containers.
The consignments were destined for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Cyprus. Babafemi reported that, at one of the logistics firms, 30 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.1 kilograms were discovered hidden in hair cream containers intended for shipment to Ireland on September 3, 2024.
Additionally, 24 parcels of cocaine weighing 862 grams, similarly concealed in hair cream containers, were intercepted on September 5, 2024. This batch was bound for delivery in the UK.
In another seizure, 525 pills of tramadol (225mg) and ecstasy (MDMA) were found hidden in sanitary pads and meant for Cyprus. This discovery was made on September 3.
Furthermore, a shipment of 200 ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine injections, concealed in food items and herbs, was seized on its way to London on September 4. On September 6, a consignment of tramadol (225mg) hidden in granulated melon, coming from Cameroon and headed for South Africa, was also intercepted.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives at Port Harcourt International Airport, in collaboration with Nigerian Customs, intercepted 550,000 pills of tramadol on September 2. The drugs had arrived from Delhi, India, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
