On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, China, to discuss boosting investment in Nigeria. Tinubu’s visit, which began on August 29, 2024, marks a significant step in strengthening Nigeria-China relations.
During the visit, Tinubu engaged with President Xi and held discussions with Chinese business leaders on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. His itinerary included tours of Huawei Technologies and the China Rail and Construction Corporation (CRCC) to advance the completion of the Ibadan to Abuja segment of the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail line.
Additionally, Tinubu met with CEOs from key sectors such as oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport construction, and dredging services—industries vital to Nigeria’s economic growth. The Presidency indicated that these engagements are expected to bring both immediate and long-term benefits to Nigeria.
According to Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s trip is set to result in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), focusing on areas such as the green economy, agriculture, satellite technology, media enterprise, blue economy development, and national planning.
