Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that the Federal Government’s healthcare reforms have attracted over $4.8 billion in potential investments, signaling a significant boost for the country’s healthcare sector. This announcement was made during the commissioning of Sahad Hospitals in Abuja, where Shettima outlined the government’s comprehensive strategy to address long-standing challenges and propel Nigeria’s healthcare system into a new era.
In his speech, Shettima emphasized the need for unity within the health sector, urging all stakeholders to work together to achieve the reforms. “Our health sector calls upon us all to unite. The promise of this day is one we cannot overlook,” he stated, underscoring the importance of collective effort in revitalizing healthcare in Nigeria.
The Vice President highlighted the government’s commitment to overhauling the healthcare system, with reforms anchored on a detailed roadmap designed to address persistent issues such as the rising cost of medicines, long hospital waiting times, and a shortage of healthcare workers. He also pointed out the critical role of the private sector in improving access to quality healthcare, recognizing its potential to complement government efforts.
Shettima also praised Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa, the Chairman and Founder of Sahad Group of Companies, for his substantial contributions to healthcare and his commitment to positively impacting the lives of Nigerians through his business ventures.
The event also featured remarks from Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, who described the inauguration of Sahad Hospital as a new chapter in Nigerian healthcare. He highlighted the hospital as an example of what can be achieved when individuals with a passion for public welfare invest in the health of their communities.
Dr. Shamsuddeen Aliyu, Vice Chairman of Sahad Hospital, elaborated on the state-of-the-art nature of the facility, which includes a 200-bed capacity, seven operating theatres, 13 dialysis machines, and a 10-bed ICU unit. He emphasized that the hospital is not just a physical structure but represents a vision for a healthier future where comprehensive and compassionate care is accessible to all.
This significant investment and the establishment of Sahad Hospital are seen as crucial steps toward transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, ensuring better healthcare outcomes for the population.
