Written by Oryiman David Mson

In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two men accused of robbing three commercial sex workers in the Surulere area of Lagos. The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a detailed statement released on Saturday.

According to the police report, the incident occurred on August 23, 2024, around 4:30 a.m. The three victims, all commercial sex workers, had been picked up by the suspects from Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Bode Thomas, Surulere. The suspects, who posed as clients, drove the victims to a secluded location under the pretense of lodging them. However, upon arrival, the situation quickly took a sinister turn.

The suspects demanded that the victims surrender their valuables, threatening them with harm if they did not comply. In the course of the robbery, the suspects made away with two iPhones valued at ₦1.05 million, a REDMI Note 12 worth ₦140,000, and an iPhone SR valued at ₦240,000. Additionally, the suspects forced the victims to transfer ₦25,000 and ₦8,000 to an Opay account under their control.

The victims, who managed to escape without physical harm, immediately reported the incident to the police. The police swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspects. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime, and law enforcement officers were able to recover some of the stolen items, including the REDMI Note 12. The police also seized the suspects’ operational vehicle, a Toyota Camry with registration number APP335 JA, along with two blank number plates believed to have been used in the commission of other crimes.

The Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that criminal activities will not go unpunished. The Command has also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

As the investigation continues, the suspects are expected to face charges in court, marking another victory in the ongoing battle against crime in Lagos.
