Lagos was engulfed in sorrow today as the legendary music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, was laid to rest amidst an outpouring of grief and heartfelt tributes. The funeral service, held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, attracted a large crowd of mourners who came to honor the life and legacy of a woman whose influence transcended music, broadcasting, acting, and activism.

Onwenu, who passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, was remembered for her immense contributions to Nigerian culture and society. The service was marked by poignant speeches and emotional farewells from those who knew her best. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as former presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, who joined the congregation in paying their respects to a true icon.

After the service, Onyeka Onwenu was laid to rest in a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi, attended by her family and close friends. The atmosphere was somber as her casket was lowered into the ground, marking the final chapter of a life that touched so many.

As the city mourns the loss of Onyeka Onwenu, her legacy as a trailblazer in Nigerian entertainment and a powerful voice for change will continue to inspire generations to come.
