Today, we celebrate the 34th birthday of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, widely known as Wizkid. Born on July 16, 1990, in the Ojuelegba suburb of Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid has become a pivotal voice in the Afrobeats movement, blending various genres including Afrobeats, Afropop, R&B, reggae, dancehall, and pop.
Wizkid began his musical journey at the young age of 11, releasing a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group formed with his church friends. His career took a significant turn in 2009 when he signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E).
Wizkid’s rise to fame came with the release of “Holla at Your Boy,” the lead single from his debut studio album, *Superstar* (2011). The album also featured hit singles like “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull,” solidifying his place in the music industry.
As we celebrate his 34th birthday, we recognize Wizkid’s contributions to music and his role in bringing Afrobeats to a global audience.
