Written by Oryiman David Mson

At the 2024 Trendupp Awards, renowned chess master Tunde Onakoya emerged victorious in a high-stakes competition against prominent critic Verydarkman and other notable figures. The Trendupp Awards, celebrated for recognizing influencers, content creators, and brands excelling on social media, saw fierce competition in the ‘Force For Social Good’ category.

Tunde Onakoya, who gained international attention in April for breaking the world record for the longest chess marathon in Times Square, New York City, where he played for over 58 hours, won the award. His remarkable achievement in chess and his commitment to using the game for social good earned him the top honor.

Verydarkman, known for his vocal opposition to social vices and advocacy for societal change, was also a strong contender. The competition included other influential figures such as Nigeria’s leading health influencer Aproko Doctor, philanthropic founder of Kokun Foundation Adepeju Olukokun, renowned humanitarian Osita Popcorn, and dance choreographer and humanitarian Seyi Oluyole.

The award ceremony took place at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, and celebrated the contributions of these individuals to social good.
